My name is Dr. Tomisha Price-Brock, and I am the new Director of Bands at Basic Academy. I am a native of Carrollton, Virginia, and have lived in various places across the United States over the past 30+ years. I received my Bachelor of Music Education degree from Virginia State University in 2005, and a Master of Music Education degree from Norfolk State University in 2011. I received my Ph.D. in Music Education at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (May 2020) and will complete an additional Postgraduate Certificate in Educational Research Methodology from the University of Illinois-Chicago by May 2021.

I have 16 years of teaching experience, with eight years on the K-12 level, and eight years in higher education. Prior to coming to Basic Academy, I served as the Director of Instrumental Music and Coordinator of Music Education at the University of Mount Olive, in Mount Olive, NC. I hold the distinct honor of being selected as the first female band director at both Clark Atlanta University (Atlanta, GA) and in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (2017).

I am an active member of NAfME, CBDNA, WBDI, MBDNA, HBCU National Band Directors Consortium, and the Intercollegiate Music Association (IMA). In a leadership capacity, I served as the President of the IMA from 2015-2017. Additionally, I have served as a guest clinician at the 2017 HBCU National Band Directors Consortium Conference (Atlanta, GA), the 2018 Douglas County Honor Band Clinic (Douglasville, GA), and the 2019 IMA Conference (Fayetteville, NC).

In the community, I own a Professional Development and Music Education Consulting Business. The primary focus of my business is providing tutoring services for teacher candidates in the area of the Praxis exams and other licensure tests. Additionally, I provide professional development workshops, services, and resources for K-12 arts educators and college/university level music/performing arts departments. I also assist students with audition preparation and college preparation, and teacher candidates with job placement and advanced studies.

I am truly honored and excited to be a part of the Basic Academy family, and I look forward to working with each of you this year, and for many years to come.
